I.    The California-Nevada Section, American Water Works Association (AWWA) Scholarship Program

Is designed for those individuals attending a College or Community College in the states of California and Nevada. Its purpose is to assist students who are pursuing a career which would apply to the field of water supply and treatment.

II.    Eligibility Requirements

a.    Full or part time student, 4 year college with a B.A./B.S. objective
b.    Full or part time student, 2 year college with an A.A./A.S. objective
c.    Permanent resident of California or Nevada

III.    Obtaining an Application

Applications are available by writing to the California-Nevada Section, AWWA at 10574 Acacia Street, Suite D6, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730, or click here for printable application.

IV.    Frequency of Scholarship

Annually. The Section reserves the right not to make an award for any year in which an outstanding candidate is not identified.

V.    Applicant Deadline

Applications must be received by June 1, 2008.

VI.    Notification of Recipients

Scholarship recipients will be notified by September 1 and the awards will be made at the Section's annual Fall conference.

VII.    Scholarship Disbursements

The scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient on or before September 29. The California-Nevada Section, AWWA scholarship, and other scholarships awarded through the Section, are to be used for educational purposes only.

VIII.    Support Provided

Two scholarships will be provided: two $1,000 scholarships for a full time student attending a 4-year college with a B.A./B.S. degree goal.

IX.    Method of Selecting Scholarship Recipient

A subcommittee of the Education Committee of the California-Nevada Section, AWWA will evaluate the applicants and select a scholarship recipient based on:

a.    Relation of academic program to the water supply and treatment industry;
b.    Need for financial assistance;
c.    Career goals;
d.    Academic record;
e.    Confirmation of acceptance for the college or community college applicant plans to attend.


Scholarship Entry Requirements

Applicants are responsible for submitting the following:

•    An official application form (typed)
•    A resume (including educational history)
•    Official transcripts from present or last school attended
•    Three letters of recommendation (two educators, one personal)
•    Proof of acceptance from the college or community college
•    Indication of annual income
•    A statement of 300 words or less on educational plans and career objectives as they relate to the water utility industry

Applications must be submitted in one mailing. An incomplete application package will be returned.
