Description:
In this one hour webinar, the goal is to review how hearing works, what are the units sound levels are measured in, what are the symptoms of overexposure to loud noise levels, and what PPE to use to conserve your sense of hearing.

Hearing is a vital sense that gets a workout in the water industry.  Many people enjoy long careers in drinking water treatment or distribution facilities.  During this work we get exposed to many different and excessive noise sources and levels.  There are several ways of preserving our hearing sense that takes moments to implement.  Learn to preserve your hearing in this webinar.

Instructor: Kevin Baughman


Kevin is a trainer with many years and varieties of experience in the water fields. He got his start in water by enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 from Oklahoma to see the sea.
After Graduating Naval Nuclear Power Propulsion Engineering School, He served on both one of the oldest and then the newest Nuclear submarines the Navy had. While completing 10 years as an enlisted member of the submarine community he served as a plant operator, maintenance technician, and supervisor. After receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1992, Kevin worked as a plant electrician, instrumentation technician, and laboratory operator at a 40mgd conventional water treatment plant in Southern California.

At this time, Kevin became licensed as a California Water Treatment Plant Operator Grade (III) and a Distribution system Operator, Grade (III). He then moved to Hawaii and went to work for the County of Maui on the West Side as a Water Treatment Plant Operator. Kevin obtained his licenses as a Hawaii WTPO (IV) and DSO (IV). In 2004, he started working for RCAC as a Technical Assistance Provider in Hawaii. Here he became the first Drinking Water Circuit Rider for the small water systems of Hawaii. In this program, as Hawaii’s first Drinking Water Circuit Rider, he has provided technical, managerial, and financial capacity building assistance to the small public water systems of Hawaii since 2004. In July 2015, Kevin transferred to Nevada and became a Nevada Grade IV WTPO and DSO. 

In 2021, Kevin returned to Maui and currently lives and works as a contract Drinking Water System operator and trainer, he currently rotates between Maui and Nevada.

A 100% refund or credit of your registration fee will be issued if a class is canceled by the Section.
