Pumps, Motors & Hydraulics

Description:
This webinar will look at how a water utility uses pumps and motors to move water throughout their treatment plant and distribution system.  Topics to be covered will be:
  • Motor operation and maintenance
  • Pump theory, operation and maintenance
  • Treatment plant and distribution hydraulics
  • Distribution system design and storage

At the end of this workshop, there will be a tour.

The Plant tour will provide a general overview of the Treatment plant operation to include where and how pumps and motors are used within some of the processes.

Security:
  • Please check in with the officer at the entrance gate.  You will then be directed to the parking lot next to the administration building.
  • All participants must have a government issued ID (drivers license or passport) to enter.  Those without proper identification will not be allowed to join the tour.
Attire:
  • All participants must wear closed-tour shoes and pants; shorts, dresses, or high heels are not permitted.
  • Be prepared to walk unaided and climb stairs.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided where required.
Reminder:
Lunch and breaks are on your own.
Dress in layers.
Bring paper and pencil.

Instructor: Henry Palechek

Henry Palechek is a retired water utility supervisor with 34 1/2 years of public service.  He started his water career at the City of San Diego in 1988 and finished it at Helix Water District.  Helix Water District has a conventional 106 MGD water treatment plant with ozone as its primary disinfectant, a 50 square mile water distribution system, serving about 500,000 connections including delivering water to three other districts.  Henry has been teaching community college classes in water technology since 1993.  He holds a BS degree in Information Systems and four AS degrees in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Electronic Technology, and Computer Science.  He currently holds a California T5 and D3 certification and an AWWA CA/NV AWTO 5.
