The Instrumentation, Controls & SCADA Technology workshop will be held in Escondido and the SCADA Operations workshop will be held in Fallbrook.

This workshop is a series designed to provide an understanding of electrical instrumentation, control systems, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) technology.  Properly operated control systems and associated SCADA technology are essential for reliable and efficiency operations.  We will be looking at instrumentation usage, operation and best practices.  The workshop will also discuss motor controls and VFD usage.  It will show how staff can use SCADA systems to oversee proper operations, collect and display real-time and historical data and meet regulatory requirements.  Finally, SCADA systems and the data collected from instrumentation are used to find and resolve problems that may arise.  Attendees should come away with a stronger understanding of the integration of instrumentation, controls, and SCADA systems.

Workshops Included in this Series:
  • Instrumentation, Controls & SCADA Technology (Escondido, CA)
    • This workshop will look at how instrumentation and control systems are used by a water utility.  It will look at controlling motors, VFDs and energy management.  The workshop will have math problems related to the topics of instrumentation and control.  It will identify four main building blocks of a SCADA system and have examples, usage and configuration option.  Finally, it will show real world examples of SCADA screens and discuss how water operations interact with SCADA technology.
  • SCADA Operations (Fallbrook, CA)
    • This class will look at advanced SCADA topics.  The focus will be on how these systems are used in the water utility field.  The class will cover high availability SCADA architectures and removing single points of failures before they become a major problem.  It will look at improving reliability of wireless communication networks, the SCADA data historian, using SQL technology and the best practices when using an OPC UA communication server.  The class will show how modern technology can be applied to pumps, motors and valves to improve reliability, optimize processes, and control energy costs.  Finally, it will discuss SCADA business continuity, disaster recovery and addressing control system obsolescence.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Training upon successful completion of the FULL 2-part workshop series!
