Emergency Preparedness

  • This workshop provides: 1. A 1.5-hour review of the basic ICS, SEMS, and NIMS courses, and 2. then a 2.5-hour Tabletop Exercise where participants get an opportunity to practice the five (5) ICS functions in a simulated incident in the Courtyard Marriott, which will serve as the Emergency Operations Center or EOC.

Complaints & Sampling

  • This will be a four hour program dedicated to trouble shooting water quality complaints and learning proper sampling techniques for microbiological, radiological, organic and inorganic water quality analysis.

  • Units of measure and unit conversions
  • Well math, drawdown, static and pumping level, discharge flow and head

Water Distribution
D1 - D2 Review

  • Two four-hour sessions. Each covering review material pertinent to the stated levels (D1-2 and D3-4) needed in preparation for the State of California Distribution Operator exam. These sessions will cover non-math related topics. (Math review sessions will be conducted separately on Tuesday the 16th by another presenter). Format will consist of a practice test and subsequent review of the test materials. The test will be given in the first 30 minutes of the session. Breaks will be for 10 minutes after each 50 minutes of instruction.

Tanks & Maintenance

  • These four topics start by lead the attendee through the process of deciding between bolted steel, welded steel, glass lined steel and concrete tanks. Secondly, keeping the tanks in good condition will be discussed with emphasis on a proactive approach to maintain steel tanks and comply with regulatory requirements and standards. Third, the attendee will be exposed to disinfection byproducts and biofilms in tanks with the intent of offering preventive options and remedial recommendations. Finally the program will conclude with an in-depth review of  water mixing alternatives in tanks with the intent of differentiating between passive and active systems.

Workforce Development

  • This four-hour session will feature water utility professionals and other speakers closely involved in the effort to address the workforce development and sustainability issue facing the water profession.  Attendees will receive a complete outline of the various elements inherent to the issue.  Speakers from the water profession and academia institutions will present detailed overviews of programs that are currently underway to help prepare, educate, and direct the incoming workforce to the water industry.  The session will also highlight some innovative concepts and utility personnel programs that water agencies need to consider in order to ensure a sustainable, engaged workforce.

Water Conservation

  • The seminar will highlight water conservation topics including: Strategies for prioritizing and budgeting for the following types of programs: Residential, Commercial
    and Landscape
  • Tips for obtaining grant funding
  • Latest information on California Urban Water Conservation Council and State Requirements for Water Conservations
