About Government Affairs

Laws and regulations, such as those related to the safety of drinking water, are critically important to utilities—and to AWWA, which is an organized voice on a range of issues.

As a scientific, technical, and educational organization, AWWA frequently serves as a crucial source of information on contamination, water treatment and distribution, water supply and demand, and other vital issues.

The Government Affairs Committee and the Safe Drinking Water Act Committee keeps the Section abreast of the legislation and regulations affecting Water. The Government Affairs Committee weighs alternatives and decides the best approach for conveying vital information to elected officials, regulatory agencies, or others. The Executive Committee typically acts on recommendations made by the Government Affairs Committee, so that an action is officially endorsed by the full organization. The Safe Drinking Water Act Committee informs Section members and water utilities about existing and proposed state and federal water quality regulations information.  The SDWA comments and makes recommendations to state and federal agencies on behalf of the Section.
