Kambria (Kami) Tiano Smith is a Senior Engineer with West Yost and has over 10 years of experience in water and recycled water system planning and hydraulic modeling, including planning and executing flushing programs for clients in California and Oregon.  She holds a BS in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly SLO, a MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford, and contributed the final revisions to the revised CA-NV AWWA Distribution Main Flushing and Cleaning Handbook.

Planning and Executing Distribution Main Flushing: Tips and Tricks from the Revised CA-NV AWWA Distribution Main Flushing & Cleaning Handbook

Description:
The CA-NV Section's revised Distribution Main Flushing & Cleaning Handbook (Handbook) was released in October 2022.  This presentation will provide guidance on selecting and preparing a flushing program for utilities of all sizes and will review many of the key themes that are presented in the Handbook, including:
  • Is flushing right for your utility?
  • How to select a flushing program
  • How to plan a flushing program
  • How to execute a flushing program, and
  • How the Handbook can help

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this webinar, attendees should be able to identify and/or describe:
  • Three (3) different types of flushing programs, including differences in the planning and capital investments required by each
  • Equipment, personnel, and customer notification requirements recommended for successful implementation of a flushing program
  • Technical nuances and recommended monitoring associated with unidirectional flushing (UDF)

Requests for refunds and transfers must be made in writing and are subject to the following conditions: Full refund of fee paid (minus 25% handling fee) will be issued for cancellations received more than 15 days prior to class start date. All fees are non-refundable thereafter. Transfers are based on availability. No transfer requests will be authorized if they are not received more than 15 days prior to class start date. A 100% refund or credit of your registration fee will be issued if a class is canceled by the Section.
